Fish Amnesty
PETA's new "Turn in Your Tackle" Campaign, launched on Fish Amnesty Day, September 25, aims to relegate fishing to the historical trash heap. Fish deserve compassion just as all animals do. They are intelligent and they experience pain and suffering every bit as much as any dog or cat. We're calling on people to send us their old poles, tackle, and other fishing gear so that we can use it in our demonstrations and other Fish Empathy Project endeavors.

Consider the Following:
  • Fish are capable of identifying other individual fish and remembering past social interactions with other fish.
  • Fish learn how to react to predators, often by observing the responses of other fish nearby.
  • This year, New Scientist reported, "The structure of the fish brain is varied and rather different from ours, but it functions in a very similar way."

Take a stand against cruelty by retiring your fishing gear and gathering up the gear of your friends and loved ones and sending it to PETA.

Donate Today!
You can make sure that Grandpa's old fishing rod won't cause any more pain and suffering. Donate your (and his) fishing rods and reels to PETA! Just like the fur coats that we collect, your donation of fishing gear will help with our educational displays and anti-fishing demonstrations around the world.

Your donation will help! Clean your closet-and your conscience-by simply mailing your fishing gear to:
